New tax law was accepted by Ukrainian Parlament and this couses numerous protest actions throghout the country as well as in Kiev. The main problem is that the new law significantly complicates the work of small and middle business. And it is not about tax dimension, it is about difficulty of paying taxes and total dependence from corrupted state tax service. Now Ukraine takes 182 position for easiness of doing business among all countries of the world. People consider this law to be intended for elimination “the middle class” – more or less financially independent people with own opinion. All western democracies are grounded on strong “middle class” people. On the other hand, new law decreases taxes for huge companies owned by oligarchs that hold all power in Ukraine.
Thousands of protesters set up a tent camp in the center of Kiev on Majdan Square to demand the goverment review of this bill again. The protest is part of a series of demonstrations in Kiev and other Ukrainian cities that have drawn middle-class people to the streets. We are standing here for freedom, for truth and for the right to do business, say people on Majdan.
The government says the changes are necessary to increase state revenues after the economy falling by 15 percent last year
But some experts say the new tax code may actually decrease government revenues by drowning businesses and the new tax policies could also enlarge corruption by giving tax inspectors too much power when inspecting firms, according to experts.

Parliament adopted the tax bill last week, but the President is hesitant to sign it, fearing it would take a serious negative influence on his popularity. He agreed to meet with the protesters this week and take their demands into consideration.

Meanwhile, a Kiev court on Monday banned rallies in the city, saying they would disturb visits by foreign delegations. But authorities appeared reluctant to use force against the protesters and the actions went on.
Demonstrators thought of a clever way to continue their protest despite the official ban. They hung posters on several tents that identify the flimsy enclosures as offices of opposition lawmakers. By law, such premises cannot be destroyed or compromised.
